Q: How do I know what the best color is for me?

  • How long before my hair feels healthier? Open or Close

A: That all depends on how damaged your hair is and the type of hair that you have. Most of our guests start to see results right away and over time the hair continues to feel healthier, look shinier and hold color longer. At home maintenance and using the right products for your hair is also very important.

  • Why is the organic color healthier for me? Open or Close

A: Its due to a few factors. First OCS does not have a lot of the harsh chemicals that most color lines use such as ammonia and resorcinol. These are harsh chemicals that literally blow the hair cuticle open in order to get the color molecule into the hair shaft.

By blowing open the hair shaft that much, it is difficult to shut the cuticle back down. Over time, by continuing to color this way, the hair is less and less able to hold onto color. That is why, in the beginning of coloring your hair, you may have found it was healthier and held color better.
OCS uses a process of using oil to soften the hair cuticle to allow the color molecule into the hair shaft. By not opening the cuticle up so much, and using a more gentle process, it is easier to close the cuticle back up tightly.
This is important because the tighter the hair cuticle, the longer the hair color will last, the shinier your hair will be and the less frizzy. There are other factors that affect this as well like the proper use of shampoos, how good your hot appliances are, how good your water is, and outside elements, like exposure to sun, chlorine, salt water, and sweat.
OCS is also made from %89 naturally derived ingredients and is the only permanent color line that used certified organic ingredients. This is not only better for your health and body, it is better for your hair. For more information read the section why Organic.

  • Does organic color cover grey hair? Open or Close

A: Yes, OCS does color grey hair well.  Grey hair is usually more difficult to cover in any color line due to the coarseness and lack of pigmentation in the hair. OCS has an entire selection of colors made specifically to cover stubborn grey hair.

  • How often do I need to recolor my hair? Open or Close

A: That all depends on what type of color process you are having, how much grey hair you have, how fast your hair grows and how much lighter or darker you go from your natural color. Average is 6 weeks and typically ranges from 4-8. We can discuss different options that will meet your time and budget needs at your appointment or consultation.

  • Will the organic color last as long as my other color? Open or Close

A: The organic color will last just as long as the color that you are using now, if not longer. No color line can do anything about the new hair that grows in. However, Organic Color Systems does fade less and has more shine, so in those aspects, most people find that the organic color last longer.

  • Can I color my hair while I am pregnant? Open or Close

A: This is something that is best for you to discuss with your doctor. Some guests color their hair during the entire pregnancy, some do it after the first trimester, and some take a break until after giving birth.

The OCS is definitely healthier for you and your baby than other color lines. There is also another option that some of my clients chose, which is to switch from all over color, which actually sits on your scalp, to do highlights, because highlights are put into a foil and do not ever touch the scalp, there is not risk of the color being absorbed into the skin.
That all being said discuss with your doctor your concerns and they will help you come up with the best decision for you and your baby.
